- Alfred and his brother George both arrive in Lancashire at the same time in the 1891 Census by this time having changed their name to BROOKS.
1881 Census they are with their Mother listed as Annie Burls in the Household of William Burls born c. 1849 Brentwood, Essex.
While Burls is a name in its own right I actually wonder if this is actually BROOKS which would explain the name change - However when Alfred and George marry they both list their father as Ben Brooks ?
1881 Census their father Philip Henry Taber is living with Sarah Taber [Brant] and child Caroline Taber born in 1879.
It is clear their mother has either been abandoned or split up before 1881 and the chances are Alfred & George did not know who their father was ?
Although their mother died in 1883 under the name of Taber and their father married Sarah Brant in 1889 so may have known his first wife had died ?
There are 24 trees on Ancestry who appear to know of this event but non know why - I presume they have not purchased all available records to see if any further evidence comes to light.
I am currrently not aware if the two BROOKS Branches living descendants from Alfred & George have done any DNA tests and if they actually match any of the Taber Descendants still living.
